Topographic Paper Sculptures

A while back, a generous individual kindly gifted a large amount of colored cardstock paper to the studio! We brainstormed ways to make use of it, sparking several new projects, one of which was this gorgeous topographic sculpture inspired by the art of Jen Stark.

From Jen Stark’s website:

“Jen Stark’s art is driven by her interest in conceptualizing visual systems to simulate plant growth, evolution, infinity, fractals, mimetic topographies, and sacred geometries. Using available materials—paper, wood, metal, paint—Stark strives to make work that balances on a razor’s edge of optical seduction and perceptual engagement.

What you need:

  • Assorted colored paper- thick/cardstock type paper works better than thin paper.

  • Scratch/copy paper

  • Pencil and eraser

  • Scissors

  • Cardboard scraps

  • Tape or glue
